ASHLAND – The Southern Oregon men's basketball team enjoyed its best shooting night of the young season behind
Jacob Axmaker and
Elijah Jackson while defeating Evergreen (Wash.), 93-60, and completing a Cascade Conference opening-weekend sweep on Saturday at Lithia Motors Pavilion.
Axmaker hit 4-of-5 attempts from 3, including three in the early going, to score 12 points across just nine minutes in his first start. Jackson scored a game-high 19 points on 10 shots with three 3-pointers and two blocked shots, also distributing four assists to help the Raiders (4-5 overall, 2-0 CCC) hit at 53% from the field.
Luke Wagstaff supplied 13 points, four rebounds and two steals, and
Joe Juhala went 5-of-6 with 10 points and six boards inside.
Trey Neff (8 points, 8 rebounds) and
Tyson Neff (6 points) were both perfect on two attempts beyond the arc, where SOU shot 14-of-32 as a team.
The win was SOU's 28th in a row against Evergreen, which fell to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the CCC.
A night after jumping out to a 16-2 lead against Northwest (Wash.), the Raiders started up 16-3 against the Geoducks. Their lead was 11 with 11:15 remaining before Jackson's three-point play triggered a 24-2 push.
Evergreen hit at 29% from the field, the lowest mark for a Raider opponent in 28 games dating back to last season. Geoducks guard Tony Frohlich-Fair led his team with 13 points but was limited to 3-of-15 accuracy.
Bryce Dyer totaled seven points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Raiders, who have won 12 of 14 home games since the start of last season.
Jace Anderson had seven points and four rebounds.
The Raiders will remain in Ashland for their next three games – Dec. 19 against Corban and Dec. 20 against Bushnell in CCC action, and Dec. 29 against Simpson (Calif.) in their final non-conference affair.
