ASHLAND – Jenika Zurita hit four 3-pointers to score a game-high 16 points off the bench and Southern Oregon never trailed in a 72-47 win against Evergreen (Wash.), completing a Cascade Conference opening-weekend sweep on Saturday afternoon at Lithia Motors Pavilion.
Zurita made 4-of-5 from deep and 6-of-8 from the field in just 11 minutes of play, establishing a new season high for points and helping the Raiders to their third consecutive win.
Lydia Traore posted 10 points, seven rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. Eliza DiGiulio contributed nine points on 3-of-5 shooting and Taylee Clements nailed three shots from behind the arc to score nine.
The win is SOU's seventh in the last eight games after dropping the first two matches of the season. They improved to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while Evergreen fell to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the CCC.
The Raiders tacked on seven unanswered points to start the game before extending the lead to 14, ending the first quarter ahead 19-5. Keeley Wright knocked down a pair of free throws with eight seconds left in the second quarter to give SOU a 20-point advantage at half.
Wright dished out a game-high seven assists while Bridgette McIntyre and Kai'Lani Aoki had four apiece.
Jenna Glenzel shot 50% from the field and scored 15 points for the Geoducks. Jesselle Victo Castillo added nine points.
The Raiders ended the weekend outscoring their opponents 143-83.
SOU stays in Ashland for its next matchups, hosting No. 22 Corban on Dec. 19 and Bushnell on Dec. 20.
