ASHLAND – As she was busy establishing another season-high strikeout total Monday against Montana State Billings, Southern Oregon's
Ayla Davies was voted the Cascade Conference Pitcher of the Week for the third time in a month.
Davies, the freshman from Burns, was recognized for her efforts in the No. 4-ranked Raiders' Cascade Conference-opening sweep of Warner Pacific. During the series, she threw a five-inning, one-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts; a seven-inning, four-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts; and came on for a save in which she struck out two of the three batters she faced.
Davies currently leads the NAIA in wins (11-1), saves (4), strikeouts (94) and innings pitched (74), and her 0.88 ERA is third-best among pitchers who have logged at least 50 innings. She has struck out 37 batters since issuing her last base on balls, raising her strikeout-to-walk ratio to an astronomical 7.8-to-1.
She has only allowed a run in two of 10 starts this season, posting a 0.63 ERA in those appearances. Her ERA as a starter was at 0.28 before she gave up three runs Monday against Billings, the NCAA Division II squad, but she also fanned 12 Yellowjackets in the mercy-rule victory.
Davies and the Raiders (17-1 overall) play their next CCC series this weekend at Carroll (Mont.).
