SALEM – A 3-1 semifinal win against College of Idaho gave the Southern Oregon beach volleyball team a spot in the final round of the inaugural Cascade Conference Championship presented by U.S. Bank, but Corban stopped the Raiders short of a title with a 3-1 triumph on Friday afternoon.

The No. 7-ranked Raiders, who ended the tournament with a 16-9 record, must wait until Monday to learn if their season will be extended with a berth in the NAIA Invitational. That double-elimination tournament runs April 24-26 in Greeneville, Tenn.

They put themselves in good position to receive an at-large bid with their second defeat of the No. 9-ranked Yotes in as many days. Their No. 2 pair, Grace Gulbrandsen and Linda Conceicao, put them in front with a straight-set victory. Their No. 1 pair, Madi Gray and Tessa Zimmermann, and No. 3 pair, Kira Sandoval and Lucretia Benolken, came from behind after first-set losses to win in tiebreakers and secure the team victory. Skyy Nihipali-Botelho and Kendal Hadwick, playing in the No. 5 slot, were also a point away from a tiebreaker-set win when the dual was clinched.

The Raiders would have needed to win back-to-back duals against No. 2-ranked Corban to capture the title given the Warriors entered the final round unbeaten in the double-elimination tourney.

The teams were even at 1-1 through the first session thanks to a tiebreaker win from Gulbrandsen and Conceicao. The second session was all Warriors: CCC Pair of the Year Emmi Marks and Jessica McMillian prevailed in a tiebreaker in the No. 3 slot after No. 5 pair Rebecca Wilber and Erin Scott won in straight sets. Corban's top pair also had a 1-0 sets lead when the outcome was finalized.

The top-seeded Warriors improved to 20-1 overall and 5-0 against SOU this season.
