ASHLAND – Once again, the Cascade Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week award belongs to Southern Oregon's
Ayla Davies.
The freshman right-hander from Burns became the CCC honoree on Monday for the fifth time in nine weeks following another routinely overpowering showing in a four-game sweep at British Columbia that put the Raiders back in first place.
She went 2-0 with a save during the series, allowing two runs in 16 2/3 innings. In Game 1, she notched her 13th shutout with a five-hit gem. In Game 3, she threw a nine-inning complete game and blanked the Thunderbirds over the last eight innings – keeping the Raiders around long enough to survive a 4-2 extra-innings win.
At 22-2, Davies has three more wins than any other pitcher in the NAIA. Her 0.80 ERA is the second-best on the national leaderboard, and she also ranks second in saves with six.
Davies is two shutouts away from matching SOU's single-season record. She is threatening to become the first Raider starting pitcher to finish a season with a sub-1.00 ERA.
She and the Raiders – who are one game ahead of Eastern Oregon atop the standings with six CCC games left to play – have their final regular-season home series this week against No. 20 College of Idaho. Doubleheaders begin Thursday at 2 p.m. and Friday at 11 a.m. at University Field.
