ASHLAND – On the back end of a grueling stretch, Southern Oregon earned its first Cascade Conference win the hard way with a five-set comeback against a top-10 team on Saturday at Lithia Motors Pavilion.
The No. 19-ranked Raiders pulled out a 25-22, 23-25, 18-25, 25-14, 15-11 upset of No. 10 College of Idaho, which was the fifth nationally-ranked opponent they'd seen in their last eight matches.
Senior outside hitter
Andressa Ribeiro Soares starred again with 14 kills and nine digs.
Friley Curtiss delivered four of her 13 kills in the fifth set and assisted three blocks, and Ane Tuinauvia sparked the Raiders with six kills after being inserted late in the third.
The result made the Raiders 4-7 overall and 1-3 in the CCC. They avoided their first four-match losing streak since 2021 and defeated C of I at home for the fourth consecutive season.
The Yotes, led by Mia Hutchinson's 13 kills and 13 digs, fell to 8-3 and 2-2. The momentum had been firmly on their side after they used a set-ending 6-2 run to steal the second and a 16-7 spurt to run away with the third.
Contributions from all over the floor got SOU back into the match.
Tessa Zimmermann contributed eight kills and five blocks, moving at one point from the middle to the pin, and
Duda Leite dropped in eight kills on 17 attacks.
Bella Cormack matched Tuinauvai's six kills and assisted a pair of blocks.
After attacking at a .113 average through the first three frames, the Raiders hit .300 in the fourth and fifth combined. Setters

Mia Jaeger (26 assists, 7 digs) helped them find their way as
Tais Vega (11 digs) and
Jadyn Daviscourt (8 digs) contributed to slowing down the Yotes.
Back-to-back Tuinauvai kills put them up 4-1 in the tiebreaker, where the Raiders' lead grew as large as 11-6. Curtiss eventually put the Yotes away.
Ribeiro Soares' double-double was her third in four CCC outings.
Cierra Bohrn chipped in 11 kills and four blocks for the Yotes. Brook Garman had 10 kills on 40 attempts.
