ASHLAND – For the second week in a row, Southern Oregon University's
Alyssa Johnson and
Carter Stedman swept the Cascade Conference McDonald's Runner of the Week awards, presented by Urban Edge Network.
The pair impressed again Saturday at the Humboldt Jim Hunt Invitational. Johnson, a week after picking up her first collegiate cross-country race victory by a margin of 83 seconds, topped a 36-person women's field by nearly 30 seconds. She ran the 6,000-meter course in 22:33.03, lifting the No. 19-ranked Raiders to second place in the team standings.
Stedman, who was also a winner a week earlier in his SOU debut, placed second out of 66 overall in the men's 8K but was the top collegiate finisher as the No. 22-ranked Raiders edged Cal Poly Humboldt for the team victory. He finished in 24:45.77, 36 seconds ahead of any other team-affiliated runner.
SOU is off the next two weekends before returning to action Oct. 4 at the Willamette Invitational.
