Raiders No. 24 in NAIA poll heading into home tilt with No. 7 Montana Tech

9/16/2025 1:23:00 PM

ASHLAND – The Southern Oregon University football team stands at No. 24 in the first NAIA Top 25 coaches' poll of the regular season entering this week's matchup with No. 7 Montana Tech at Raider Stadium's Laurel Field.

The Raiders' ranking represents a two-spot drop from their preseason post. They're off to a 1-1 start, having defeated Simpson (Calif.), 59-0, and lost at NCAA Division II squad Western Oregon, 27-7.

Their next two home games will be against top-10 teams. Montana Tech (3-0), which SOU hosts at 1 p.m. Saturday, jumped four spots to No. 7 on the strength of wins over Montana Western and Carroll (Mont.). Montana Western (1-1) – which comes to Ashland on Oct. 4 for the teams' Frontier Conference West Division opener – is down four spots to No. 9.

The Frontier has two more teams in the Top 25 in No. 11 Dickinson State (N.D.) and No. 25 Carroll. College of Idaho is the first team out.
