SOU steals Carmichael's 100th win in dramatic fashion against Oregon Tech

ASHLAND – Southern Oregon made Davie Carmichael sweat out his 100th victory as the team's head coach on Friday afternoon at Raider Stadium's Laurel Field. His patience was rewarded late with a dramatic game-winner in a 1-0 defeat of rival Oregon Tech.

The Raiders were without their two leading scorers against a previously-unbeaten Owls team that had surrendered just three goals all season, and the absences appeared insurmountable until lightning struck in the 86th minute of a scoreless affair.

It was then that senior defender Kaden Barker lofted a pass skying 60 yards downfield and streaking junior forward Mustafa Daggig, with a defender on his back, beat drawn-out OIT keeper Harvey Bolland to it 25 yards away from the goal. As the two Owls collided, Daggig tapped it forward and found himself all alone to send the lone score into the back of the net.

Daggig's goal was his third of the season. It made the Raiders 8-0-1 overall – their nine-game unbeaten streak is the longest to start a season in team history – and 3-0-0 in the Cascade Conference.

The Owls, who have still never scored a goal in five all-time trips to Ashland, dropped to 4-1-3 and 2-1-0.

Carmichael is now 100-26-10 since taking over for the Raiders in 2018. His teams have been at their best in CCC play, sporting a win percentage of .824 (67-12-6).

They were working without reigning CCC Offensive Player of the Week Irwin Leon, gone for one game after being issued two yellow cards last Sunday, and Ariel De Dios Cruz, who was twice voted Player of the Week before going down with an injury.

The back line held strong, however, and goalkeeper Casey Ruvolo corralled a season-high seven saves. The clean sheet was SOU's fourth.

The Raiders have been tied at halftime in all three of their conference games. They've outscored opponents 16-2 combined in second halves this season.

Only the Raiders, Carroll (Mont.) and Eastern Oregon remain perfect in CCC play. SOU visits Carroll next Saturday following Thursday's trip to Rocky Mountain (Mont.).
