ASHLAND – Facing a 24-21 deficit in the fourth set, Bushnell scored the last five points of the night unanswered to avoid a fifth in a 23-25, 25-12, 25-19, 26-24 win against the No. 25-ranked Southern Oregon volleyball team on Friday at Lithia Motors Pavilion.
Beacons outside hitter Hailey Heider finished with a match-high 17 kills, three of which she dropped in during the clinching run. Amyah Semau added 14 kills, 12 digs and three blocks.
The Beacons, who were receiving votes in the latest NAIA Top 25 coaches' poll, improved to 11-6 overall and 5-2 in the Cascade Conference. The Raiders went to 6-8 and 3-4.
Maya Watters had 16 kills in the loss.
Andressa Ribeiro Soares went for nine kills and 13 digs, and
Tais Vega came up with 17 digs.
Bushnell hadn't won in Ashland since 2017 and snapped a seven-match overall losing streak in the series.
Back-to-back Heider kills and an SOU attacking error got the Beacons tied up in the fourth set. Another Heider smash put them in front, and another Raider error ended it.
The Beacons attacked at a .236 average and limited SOU to a .164 clip with 10 blocks. Aliyah Malone assisted six of them.
SOU is home again at 4 p.m. Saturday to face No. 3-ranked Corban.
