SOU begins conference play with 5-set loss at LC State

LEWISTON, Idaho – The No. 19-ranked Southern Oregon volleyball team was serving for the match with a 24-20 lead in the fourth set before Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) rallied to win in five on Friday night at the P1FCU Activity Center.

Karissa Lindner swung the Cascade Conference opener by breaking a Warriors record with 15 blocks in the 23-25, 25-20, 19-25, 26-24, 15-12 decision. With her team trailing by four points in the fourth, she started the run of six unanswered with a kill and back-to-back blocks.

The win was the first for the Warriors (4-0 overall, 1-0 CCC) against SOU (3-5, 0-1) since 2022. They had a 19-6 advantage in total blocks, pushed the Raiders to 43 attacking errors, and got 17 kills from All-CCC outside hitter Juliauna Forgach Aguilar, including a couple at the end of the fateful fourth set.

The result overshadowed a season-best 21-kill outing for SOU outside hitter Maya Watters, who took 44 swings, and a big all-around night for Andressa Ribeiro Soares. The latter came up with 32 digs – the most for any non-libero Raider in coach Josh Rohlfing's 19 seasons at SOU – put down 18 kills.

Friley Curtis had 14 kills, Duda Leite contributed 11 kills and three blocks, and Tais Vega collected 14 digs. Setters Annie Hite (31 assists) and Mia Jaeger (33 assists) helped the Raiders to a .156 attacking average compared to LC State's .137.

Lindner's assisted block and an Esther Kailiponi service ace put the Warriors up 8-5 in the tiebreaker set. The Raiders got within 13-11 before a Lindner kill, and an attacking error that was close enough to go to replay review ended it.

The Raiders end the trip at 9 p.m. Saturday against Walla Walla (Wash.), which opened its CCC slate by sweeping Oregon Tech.
