TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
McMINNVILLE – The No. 11-ranked Southern Oregon women's wrestling team left Sunday's Linfield Mat 'Cat Open with 10 placers, including a pair of tournament champions in 124-pounder
Kaylee Annis and 145-pounder
Holland Wieber.
Runners-up
Deandra Meza (117 pounds),
Myia Weiler (124) and
Sialafua Polamalu (180) gave the Raiders five total finalists.
Michaela Sarmiento (103) and
Eliza Goodwin (131) placed third,
Diamond Lopez (103) and
Sabrina Sifuentez (138) were fourth, and
Caroline Farris (117) finished fifth.
Competing for the first time in two months, Annis, a national qualifier last season, pinned her first two opponents in the first round before defeating Weiler 3-0 for the 124 title. Weiler had advanced to the match with a pair of decisions.
Wieber, another NAIA Championships qualifier last year, was the most dominant Raider in action. She pinned all three of her opponents in the first round and needed 1:25 to finish off Umpqua C.C.'s Evelina Juzenaite in the final.
Meza recorded two falls before dropping the 117 final. Polamalu also went 2-1 with a pair of pins.
Goodwin, after losing her first match, won three in a row with two technical falls. Sarmiento had a 3-2 afternoon.
The Raiders had been off since Dec. 14. Their top wrestlers are back in action Friday and Saturday in Cedar Falls, Iowa, at the NWCA National Duals.
