ASHLAND – Halfway through the Cascade Conference regular season, the Southern Oregon University volleyball team stood at No. 22 in Wednesday's NAIA Top 25.
The poll was the first released by the National Selection Committee – the same body that will choose the NAIA Tournament field – as the NAIA transitions away from traditional coaches' polls for the remainder of the season.
The Raiders are 14-6 overall and 6-4 in the CCC with wins against two current Top 25 teams: No. 12 Taylor (Ind.) and No. 20 Lewis-Clark State (Idaho). They were No. 17 in the last coaches' poll that was released three weeks ago.
SOU is on the road this week to face Walla Walla (Wash.) (3-9, 3-7) on Friday and Lewis-Clark State (12-4, 6-4) on Saturday. The Raiders defeated both teams in five sets during the opening week of conference play.
In addition to SOU and LC State, the CCC has three more teams in the Top 25: Eastern Oregon stayed at No. 1, Corban moved up one spot to No. 5, and College of Idaho dropped four to No. 8.
The next poll will be released on Oct. 21.
