No. 22 OIT gets hot early, downs Raiders 84-71

KLAMATH FALLS – Southern Oregon's backcourt of Elijah Jackson and Gio Evanson combined for 46 points, but No. 22-ranked Oregon Tech blitzed the Raiders early on the way to an 84-71 Cascade Conference win on Tuesday night at Danny Miles Court.

The Owls (18-7 overall, 13-4 CCC) put in four 3-pointers and a three-point play within the first five minutes to get off to a 17-3 start, and Grant Tull knocked down their seventh 3 at the first-half buzzer to make it 42-23 at halftime.

Jackson shot 8-of-15 with five triples to score a game-high 26 points for the Raiders (15-10, 12-5), who won the teams' first meeting by limiting the Owls to 67 last month.

Evanson was 8-of-16 and hit the 20-point mark for the fifth time in conference play.

OIT shot 52% from the field compared to SOU's 39% clip and took over sole possession of third place in the standings. The Owls' forwards, Jackson Cooper and Dakota Reber, combined for 47 points on 20 field-goal attempts, hitting all 12 of their free throws.

Bryce Dyer chipped in six points and nine rebounds for the Raiders. Trey Neff and Luke Wagstaff both hit a pair of 3-pointers.

With three regular-season games remaining, SOU is a game in the loss column behind OIT and College of Idaho and two losses behind co-leaders Eastern Oregon and Lewis-Clark State (Idaho).

The Raiders play their final scheduled home game at 5 p.m. Saturday against Warner Pacific, then travel to EOU and C of I next week.
