KLAMATH FALLS – Oregon Tech ended Southern Oregon's winning streak at seven games by taking a 69-60 decision that left the teams tied for second place in the Cascade Conference on Tuesday night at Danny Miles Court.
Following a calamitous first half, the Raiders (18-7 overall, 13-4 CCC) did well to build some tension in the second. The Owls (17-8, 13-4) went up by 16 points through one quarter behind 11 from forward Jozie Ramos and a defense that forced seven turnovers. Their lead was 39-13 at halftime as SOU went into the break with a 5-of-25 mark from the field.
The Raiders more than tripled their first-half output in the third quarter alone. They made five 3-pointers in the first six minutes to fuel a 24-12 run, slicing the deficit to 14 on
Eliza DiGiulio's three-point play at the 2:36 mark.
OIT, steadied by Tatum Schmerbach's 26 points and 10 rebounds, stopped SOU from getting within single digits until the final minute of play. Ramos finished with 15 and eight.
Bridgette McIntyre (16 points) and DiGiulio (11 points) amassed their team-leading point totals entirely in the second half for the Raiders.
Sage Winslow registered 10 points, six rebounds and two steals.
The Raiders hit 8-of-15 attempts from 3 after the break. McIntyre had four of those, while DiGiulio and
Taylee Clements accounted for two apiece.
With two weekends left in the regular season, SOU and OIT are among five four-loss teams behind 13-3 Eastern Oregon. For now, OIT is the only one of those teams that has clinched a head-to-head tiebreaker over SOU.
The Raiders play their final scheduled home game at 3 p.m. Saturday against Warner Pacific before going to EOU and 12-4 College of Idaho next week.
