ASHLAND – In its final dual of the season, the No. 6-ranked Southern Oregon men's wrestling team deployed a lineup full of backups. It didn't matter in a 48-7 thumping of Linfield on Saturday at Bob Riehm Arena.
The Raiders started the matchup with eight consecutive wins by fall – six of the first-round variety – to finish dual action at 16-1 and with the fourth-highest winning percentage (.941) in team history.
Only two of SOU's 10 nationally-ranked individuals were in action less than 24 hours after they defeated Eastern Oregon in Springfield. The No. 7-ranked
Isaac Hampton (125 pounds),
Zach Keinonen (133),
Santino Alvaro (141) and Noah McKenzie (149) opened the contest by pinning their opponents in just over seven minutes combined.
Trevor Wolf (157) and
Sam Aiken (165) followed with second-round pins. No. 12
Braylin Ruchti (174) and
Josiah Green (184) got the Raiders back on pace by finishing their foes in the first.
Linfield got its wins from Ethan Ensrud (197) by major decision and Camden Roofener (285) by 7-4 decision. The Wildcats fell to 3-3 on the season.
Green and
John White (197) were both appearing for the last time at SOU. The Raiders had six freshmen in the lineup.
They're off until the Cascade Conference Championships, set for Feb. 20-21 in Salem.
