TOURNAMENT CENTRAL

ASHLAND – The No. 10-ranked Southern Oregon women's wrestling team peaked at the right time Sunday while coming in second to No. 3 Providence (Mont.) at the Cascade Conference Championships presented by U.S. Bank.

Five Raiders outperformed their seeds, eight earned All-CCC honors by placing top-three in their weight classes, and nine qualified automatically for the NAIA Championships as the tournament returned to Bob Riehm Arena for the first time in six years.

Top-seeded sophomores Kat Hingano and Lillian Gradillas-Flores performed as expected. Hingano, ranked No. 2 at 180 pounds, won her second CCC title while Gradillas-Flores, ranked No. 1 at 207, won her first for the Raiders. That pair was joined on the All-CCC podium by finalists Kaylee Annis (124 pounds), Jade Morales (131) and Makayla Correa (138), as well as third-place Lia Ferreira (103), Myia Weiler (124) and Holland Wieber (145).

Ferreira went into the books as a third-place finisher but snagged her bracket's second and final national bid by winning a "true" second-place match. Quilaztli Miguel-Lapham became the team's ninth qualifier by placing fourth at 160 pounds as the No. 13 seed after coming up clutch with three consecutive consolation victories.

Providence celebrated its first championship by accumulating 196 points with seven individual champions. SOU scored 147, easily beating out third-place Eastern Oregon's 120. The Raiders also collected the Athletic Solutions Team Sportsmanship Award.

A total of 26 automatic bids were handed out for the NAIA Championships, which will take place March 13-14 in Park City, Kan. Additional wild card and at-large qualifiers will be announced later.

Hingano – the 207-pound CCC champ a year ago – won the 180 title with little resistance, pinning her first two opponents in the first round and defeating Providence's No. 13 Kassidy Sigda, 8-0, in the final. Gradillas-Flores, who last year reached the 180 finals, was equally dominant at 207 with back-to-back technical falls to start her day and a second-round pin of Westcliff's No. 16 Fernanda Canedo to end it.

Annis, ranked No. 13 at 124, reached her final with a 5-4 semifinal upset of Evergreen's No. 8 Ellabella Taylor. The No. 16-ranked Morales also got through the semis in upset fashion at 131, pinning Eastern Oregon's No. 13 Lexi Garza. Correa, ranked No. 10, did the same at 138 with a semifinal pin of Evergreen's No. 7 Haley Le.

Ferreira entered the day unranked, and after winning a third-place match, she knocked off No. 12 Isabella Bocanegra of Providence in the true second-place match to clinch her trip to nationals. Weiler, ranked No. 18 at 124, earned All-CCC honors with a technical fall of Evergreen's No. 8 Taylor in the third-place round, while Wieber won back-to-back consolations for third place at 145.

Miguel-Lapham arguably had the run of the day for SOU. The senior was a CCC finalist and a No. 3 national seed a year ago before an injury ended her postseason and slowed her progress this year. She was on the brink of elimination early but came back for three consolation wins, including two by fall.
