ASHLAND — The Southern Oregon beach volleyball team moved to first place in the Cascade Conference standings after defeating No. 2 Corban 4-1 on Saturday at the Raider Beach Courts. 

The Raiders' victory coincided with senior day and followed a 4-1 upset over the Warriors on Friday where they dealt the top-ranked team in the CCC its first conference loss of the season. After Saturday's rematch win, SOU improved to 13-2 overall and 11-1 in the CCC. 

The first two matches of the day concluded with tiebreaker sets, where No. 2 pair Molly Grace and Kira Sandoval ( 21-13, 13-21, 15-12) and No. 4 pair Amanda Moffat and Kaitlyn Shilling (11-21, 21-19, 15-11) emerged ahead to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead. 

The No. 5 pair of Natalie Perez and Kendal Hadwick clinched the dual and SOU's ninth consecutive victory, winning 21-19, 22-24, and 15-8. The third pair of Andressa Ribeiro Soares and Maelle Garon laid the icing on the cake with a straight set sweep (21-17, 21-16).  

"It was a great senior day with seven great seniors," said head coach Paul Elliott. "We came out with great energy and held onto it." 

The seniors honored were Emily Anderson, Jenna Whitmore, Grace, Ribeiro Soares, Shilling, Eireen Dale Madelo and Moffat. Whitmore paired up with Kiahla Granger at the No. 6 pair and won a set 21-13 before swapping with Dale Madelo and Anderson, who lost a close set 20-22. 

Corban fell to 19-5 overall and 12-2 in the CCC. 

The Raiders travel to Kirkland, Wash., next week to finish out the regular season, where they play Northwest (Wash.) twice and No. 9 College of Idaho once.
