ASHLAND –
Kendal Hadwick and
Natalie Perez were the latest Southern Oregon University beach volleyball players to be voted the NAIA Pair of the Week on Tuesday, the national office announced.
Hadwick and Perez, SOU's No. 5 pair, were the third Raider tandem in four weeks to receive the honor, following No. 1 pair
Grace Gulbrandsen and
Tessa Zimmermann and No. 2 pair
Molly Grace and
Kira Sandoval. Each award has been collected during the team's active nine-dual winning streak.
Hadwick and Perez were perfect during the No. 4-ranked Raiders' biggest week yet, which included back-to-back upsets of No. 2 Corban and a defeat of Bushnell. The wins put them in first place at 13-2 overall and 11-1 in the Cascade Conference. They have three duals this weekend to wrap up the regular season – two against Northwest (Wash.) and one against No. 9 College of Idaho – and need to win two of them to clinch their first CCC title and hosting rights for next week's CCC Tournament.
The No. 5 pair, Hadwick and Perez, has been instrumental to SOU's success throughout the spring. Their latest victories made them 14-1 overall and 12-0 in conference matches. They won six of seven sets played last weekend – needing a tiebreaker only in the second Corban matchup, where their 15-8 third-set victory served as the clincher for their team win.
Prior to last week, SOU had lost eight consecutive matchups with Corban. Should the Raiders host the CCC Tournament, they'll do so April 9-10.
