ASHLAND – The Southern Oregon University softball team stayed at No. 1 as the Cascade Conference claimed three of the top-four spots in the first regular season edition of the NAIA Top 25 coaches' poll, released Wednesday by the national office.
Coming off a CCC-opening split of a four-game series against Eastern Oregon, the Raiders are out to a 16-6 start and received first-place votes on 11 of 19 ballots. They have seven Top 25 wins and five against NCAA Division II teams, and they've yet to lose to an unranked NAIA squad.
Eastern Oregon moved up a spot to No. 2 after taking two of three conference-counting games from the Raiders. Oregon Tech, which has started 16-2, got a six-spot boost to No. 4.
A fourth CCC team, College of Idaho, received votes at No. 32 overall. The Yotes were swept at Oregon Tech last weekend and host SOU on Friday and Saturday.
The next Top 25 poll will be released March 18.
