ASHLAND – The Southern Oregon women's soccer team completed an unbeaten trek through its non-conference schedule for the first time in program history with a 2-1 defeat of Simpson (Calif.) on Friday afternoon at Raider Stadium's Laurel Field.
Freshman
Elsa Voegele's first career goal, tallied in the 47th minute, proved to be the game-winner as the Raiders moved to 3-0-2 entering Cascade Conference play. Off of a corner kick,
Ava Johnson was credited with an assist after her initial shot was blocked and Voegele was there to tap in the rebound.
Sophomore attacker
Tori Lasch, who scored four goals in her most recent outing, scored her fifth of the season in the 10th minute, taking an assist from
Macie Yannoni and sending home a 15-yard, left-footed strike to open the scoring.
The Red Hawks (2-1-3) had been unbeaten when the day began. They got a first-half equalizer off the head of Claire Brown on a set piece but only put one attempt on goal in the second, where they were out-shot by an 11-3 margin.
The game was the Raiders' first at home, where they are unbeaten in 11 of their last 12 games dating back to 2024. Going back to last fall, they have an overall unbeaten streak in the regular season of nine games.
Simpson keeper Jenna Sosa made six saves to keep the Red Hawks close. SOU's
Ashlyn Fuss, the reigning NAIA Defensive Player of the Week, made two.
The Raiders start CCC play next week at Northwest (Wash.) and Evergreen (Wash.). They won't be home again until Oct. 2, by which point they will have played seven of their first eight on the road.
