ASHLAND – Southern Oregon women's soccer goalkeeper Ashlyn Fuss was named the NAIA Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after joining forward Ava Johnson and volleyball player Tessa Zimmermann as Cascade Conference Athletes of the Week.

Fuss, a redshirt-freshman from Boise, Idaho, collected 18 saves to preserve a scoreless draw for the Raiders last Thursday at No. 3-ranked Embry-Riddle (Ariz.). Her save total was the third-highest in team history – unmatched by any Raider in the last 24 years – and came on the heels of a three-save effort in a 1-1 tie at No. 23 Westcliff (Calif.).

Fuss was also in goal at the start of Saturday's 10-1 rout at Benedictine Mesa (Ariz.). Through her first four collegiate games she has accumulated 24 saves and allowed one goal, good for a save rate of 96%.

Johnson, a junior from West Sacramento, Calif., earned the CCC offensive award after totaling three goals and an assist on the week. Her biggest strike was a 78th-minute equalizer at Westcliff. She went on to supply two goals and an assist at Benedictine Mesa.

Zimmermann was voted the CCC volleyball attacker of the week after leading No. 18-ranked SOU to back-to-back five-set wins during the opening week of conference play, last Thursday over Walla Walla (Wash.) and Friday over No. 12 Lewis-Clark State (Idaho). She had 32 kills and only three errors on the homestand, attacking at a combined .537 clip, and added nine blocks.

Zimmermann also delivered when the Raiders needed her most with five kills in the tiebreaker set against WWU and four more in the tiebreaker against LCSC. Across six matches in the last two weeks, she has gone for 60 kills compared to five attacking errors.

The Raider women's soccer team (2-0-2) is unbeaten through its first four games for the second time in team history entering Friday's 11 a.m. home opener against Simpson (Calif.). The Raider volleyball team is 10-2 overall and 2-0 in the CCC entering trips this weekend to No. 1 Eastern Oregon and No. 9 College of Idaho.
