Raiders Split With Corban

The Southern Oregon softball team came away with its third straight Cascade Conference split, this time with Corban today in Salem.

The Raiders won the opener 5-4 and then dropped the nightcap 8-3.

Southern Oregon now sits at 7-13 overall and 3-3 in Cascade Conference play and travels to Northwest Christian tomorrow. Corban improved to 11-16 overall and 3-3 in conference action.

In the opener, junior Karri Johnson (Delta, British Columbia/Sands Secondary) picked up her third straight victory for the Raiders and held the Warriors to seven hits.

The Raiders were down 3-1 before coming alive.

Southern Oregon cut the lead to 3-2 after Kathryn Moy got on base by an error and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Meghan Laughlin (Honolulu, Hawaii/Mid-Pacific Institute) in the fifth inning.

In the sixth, senior Bailey Price (Napa, Calif./Vintage) got the Raiders rolling with a leadoff double down the leftfield line. Johnson then helped herself with a run-scoring single and eventually scored on an RBI single by Moy for a 4-3 lead.

The Warriors tied the game in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single, but the Raiders had one finally rally left in them.

In the top of the seventh, Price walked and moved to second on a single by Jessica Flores (Corning, Calif./Corning) and then came around to scored on a fielder's choice and an error.

In the bottom of the seventh, Johnson gave up a one-out triple and then retired the next to runners for the victory.

Johnson, Moy, Price and Rayna Okimoto (Honolulu, Hawaii/Aiea) all had two hits for the Raiders.

In the nightcap, the Warriors hit five home runs - including three by catcher Tamara Feb.

Junior Sarah Wharton (Ontario, Ore./Ontario) led the SOU offense with a two-run single.
