The Masters College shot 52 percent from the field and scored an 80-65 victory over the Southern Oregon men tonight at McNeal Pavilion in the final game of the Flagship Inn Classic.

The Masters College, who defeated Pepperdine earlier in the year, improved to 5-2 overall. SOU fell 2-5 on the season. The Raiders open up Cascade Conference play Friday when they host Eastern Oregon.

Eli Thornton (Victorville, Calif./Victorville) had 11 points and six assists to lead SOU. Humphrey Jackson (Redwood City, Calif./Woodside) and Jarrad Childs (Paso Robles, Calif./Paso Robles) each had 10 points.

Jeremy Haggerty had a game-high 25 points on 10-for-13 shooting to lead the Mustangs.

After the two teams traded the lead early in the first half, the Mustangs pulled away by shooting 55 percent over the first 20 minutes to take a 39-33 lead at the half.

The impressive shooting continued in the second half as they pushed the lead to 63-47 with 9:49 to play, but for the second straight now the Raiders made a late comeback.

The run was started by a four point play by Jackson to cut the lead to 63-51. Back-to-back jumpers by Andrew Shipley (Medford, Ore./Cascade Christian) and Mahr had the lead down to 63-55 with 8:44.

After the Mustangs pushed the lead back to 12 at 67-55, Thornton hit a jumper following a turnover and a pair of Jackson free throws cut the Masters advantage to 67-59. Childs nailed a jumper to get it to 67-61 with 5:23 to play, but that's as close as the Raiders would.

The Mustangs pulled away late thanks to a pair of dunks by Haggerty.
