The Southern Oregon men's basketball team shot just 61 percent from the free throw line and dropped an 82-74 decision to NAIA Division I Fresno Pacific tonight at McNeal Pavilion.
The Sunbirds improved to 7-3 overall on the season. Southern Oregon dropped to 3-7. The Raiders return to Cascade Conference play Friday and Saturday as they travel to Evergreen State and Northwest University.
Fresno Pacific's Jordan Wild led all scorers with 20 points on 7-for-10 shooting.
Jarrad Childs (Paso Robles, Calif./Paso Robles) (16), Kory Mahr (14),
Humphrey Jackson (Redwood City, Calif./Woodside) (12) and
Eli Thornton (Victorville, Calif./Victorville) (10) all scored in double digits for the Raiders.
As a team, the Raiders made just 21 of 34 free throws and 14 of 23 in the second half.
Southern Oregon looked impressive in the first half as they scored 15 points off turnovers and led 31-30 at the half.
A layup by
Austin Wolfer (Woodburn, Ore./Woodburn) and a 3-pointer by Childs gave SOU a 38-30 lead with 18:30 to play, but the Sunbirds came right back with a 13-4 run to take a 43-42 lead and Fresno Pacific never gave up the lead.
Childs finished with seven assists and five steals for the Raiders.
