Stuck right in the middle of a race for a Cascade Conference postseason berth, the Southern Oregon men's basketball team wraps up a five-game road trip this weekend.
Southern Oregon (5-11 overall, 3-4 Cascade Conference) travels to Warner Pacific (12-4, 5-3) Friday night and Cascade College (8-6, 1-5) Saturday night. SOU will then travel to Northwest Christian in Eugene on Monday to face Evergreen State (10-5, 6-2) in a makeup game from December. Friday and Saturday's games start at 7:30 p.m. and Monday's game starts at 5 p.m.
After dropping games at Oregon Tech and at Northwest Christian last week, the Raiders are now one of three teams tied for fourth place in the conference standings with four losses.
Following these three games, SOU plays six of their next eight games at McNeal Pavilion.
“We need to go out and get a road win or two,” SOU head coach
Brian McDermott said. “Warner Pacific and Cascade are two teams that we match up with pretty well and they are both two places that we usually play well at.”
The Raiders still have two players averaging double-digits in scoring.
Jarrad Childs (Paso Robles, Calif./Paso Robles) goes for 13.8 points and
Eli Thornton (Victorville, Calif./Victorville) averages 11.2. Childs also ranks fourth in the NAIA with 49 steals and an average of 3.06.
Both have been suffering from nagging injuries over the last couple weeks.
“I think we are finally getting healthy,” McDermott said. “Playing at full strength is key, especially when you go out on the road.”
Warner Pacific opened the season 12-2, but hit the skids last weekend with losses at Concordia and Corban. SOU swept those two teams at home in early January.
Adam Moore leads Warner Pacific in scoring at 20.8 per game, while Kaylone Riley averages a double-double at 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Cascade knocked off Concordia last Saturday to snap a five-game losing streak.
Ben Pawlak leads Cascade with a 19.6 points per-game average.
