The Southern Oregon University men's basketball team placed four individuals in double-digits as they came away with an 81-73 victory over Concordia tonight at McNeal Pavilion.
The Raiders are now 4-9 overall and 2-2 in Cascade Conference play. Concordia fell to 5-8 overall and 0-4 in conference action. SOU continues its homestand Saturday when they host Corban.
Junior Jarrad Childs (Paso Robles, Calif./Paso Robles) led all SOU with 19 points to go along with five steals and five rebounds. Senior Eli Thornton (Victorville, Calif./Victorville) finished with 14 points, while Scott Tiefenthaler (Spanaway, Wash./Bethel) went for 12 points and Humphrey Jackson (Redwood City, Calif./Woodside) had 10 points and six assists.
Steven Vaughan led the Cavs with 16 points, while Alex Tiefenthaler went for 13 points and 14 rebounds.
A Childs layup helped the Raiders jump out to a 10-4 lead with 16:50 to play in the first half and the Raiders pushed it to 14 at 41-27 on a Childs jumper before leading 43-32 at the half.
The Raiders pushed the lead to 15 early in the second half and then had to hold on as the Cavs came flying back.
Concordia cut the lead to three points at four different times in the second half, including at 76-73 with 1:43 to play.
But Scott Tiefenthaler (Spanaway, Wash./Bethel) had the answer for the Raiders, nailing a baseline 3-pointer to push the lead back to six at 79-73 with just over a minute to play and Childs iced it with a layup at the nine second mark.
The Raiders were able to score the victory, despite making just 6-for-20 free throws (30 percent).
