The College of Idaho men's basketball team shot nearly 60 percent for most of the game and scored an 85-71 victory over Southern Oregon tonight in Caldwell, Idaho.
The Coyotes upped their overall record to 13-10 and improved to 9-4 in Cascade Conference play. Southern Oregon dropped to 7-15 overall and 5-8 in conference play.
Kevin Potts scored 26 points on 10 of 13 shooting for the Coyotes.
Trevor McCay (Petersburg, Alaska/Petersburg) led SOU with a season-high 22 points, including four 3-pointers.
Humphrey Jackson (Redwood City, Calif./Woodside) finished with 16 points, five assists and four rebounds.
Eli Thornton (Victorville, Calif./Victorville) had 10 points.
SOU came out and shot 46 percent in the first half and trailed just 39-36 despite Potts going for 20 points in the first 20 minutes on 8-for-9 shooting.
The Raiders cut the lead to one twice in the early going of the second half on baskets by
Dustin Vaughn (Harrisburg, Ore./Harrisburg) and
Josh McDermott (Ashland, Ore./Ashland), but a 10-0 run by the Coyotes pushed the lead to 51-40.
The Raiders came back and cut the lead to 62-57 on a pair of McCay free throws with just under 11:00 to play, but the Yotes answered again pushing the lead to 83-68 with 2:44 to play on a Potts layup to take control.
The Coyotes finished the game hitting on 33 of 59 shots (55 percent).
Southern Oregon travels to Eastern Oregon Saturday night.
