Fifth-ranked Warner Pacific withstood a strong push from the Southern Oregon men and escaped with a 78-75 victory tonight at McNeal Pavilion.
Warner Pacific improved to 6-3 overall and 1-1 in Cascade Conference play. Southern Oregon dropped to 7-3 overall and 0-2 in conference action.
Jake Glisson led the Knights with a game-high 31 points. Jared Mace finished with 17 points and Kaylone Riley had 16 rebounds and four blocks.
Trevor McCay (Petersburg, Alaska/Petersburg) and
Ryan Staker (Las Vegas, Nevada/Centennial) both had 15 points for the Raiders, while
Humphrey Jackson (Redwood City, Calif./Woodside) had 13 points and
Drew Herrera (Medford, Ore./North Medford) finished with 10.
Glisson helped spark the Knights early, hitting three 3-pointers to help the Knights take a 19-13 lead.
After that is a back-and-forth affair.
The two teams were tied at 40-40 at the half and Warner pushed the lead up to 61-56 with just over 10 minutes to play in the game.
But McCay started to warm up in late in the half and a 3-pointer gave SOU a 62-61 lead.
Jackson hit a 3-pointer to give the Raiders a 67-63 advantage with 7:37 to play and after Warner tied the game at 67-67, McCay buried another 3-pointer to push the lead back to 70-67.
The two teams were tied three more times before Warner took control late, with a Glisson layup giving the Knights the lead for good at 76-74.
