Late Run Not Enough For SOU Men

The Southern Oregon men's basketball used a late run tonight at Corban, but it wasn't enough as the Warriors scored a 74-65 victory in Salem.

Corban improved to 11-17 overall and 7-12 in Cascade Conference play. SOU fell to 9-19 overall and 7-12 in conference action. SOU travels to Concordia Saturday night.

Paul Martin had 22 points to lead Corban.

Austin Wolfer (Woodburn, Ore./Woodburn) led SOU with 18 points on seven of eight shooting from the field. Eli Thornton (Victorville, Calif./Victorville) finished with 14 points and Jarrad Childs (Paso Robles, Calif./Paso Robles) had 13.

The Warriors led 49-43 with 11:22 to play before SOU kicked it up a gear.

Three straight points by Thornton and a 3-pointer by Childs cut the advantage to 50-47 with 9:40 to play. Senior Josh McDermott (Ashland, Ore./Ashland) added a basket to cut the lead to one at 50-49.

McDermott then scored on a basket and a free throw to give the Raiders a 52-50 lead.

Childs scored four of SOU's next six points to push the SOU lead to 58-53 with 6:28 to play.

Corban came right back and grabbed the lead again at 59-58 with a Martin layup.

After that the two teams traded the lead back-and-forth four times before Ben Potloff made a pair of free throws to give Corban the lead for good at 66-64.
