The seventh-seeded Southern Oregon men's basketball teams' hopes of an upset run through the Cascade Conference Postseason Tournament came to an end tonight as the Raiders fell 83-67 at second-seeded Eastern Oregon in the tourney's first round.
Eastern Oregon, ranked 10th in this week's NAIA Top 25 poll, improved to 23-6 overall and Southern Oregon's season ended at 9-21.
Paul Carollo led Eastern with 15 points, while Jordan Gregg had 14 and Kris Groce finished with 13.
SOU's
Austin Wolfer (Woodburn, Ore./Woodburn) finished with 16 points.
Humphrey Jackson (Redwood City, Calif./Woodside) had 14, while
Jarrad Childs (Paso Robles, Calif./Paso Robles) had 11 and
Eli Thornton (Victorville, Calif./Victorville) had 10.
Back-to-back baskets by Wolfer and Thornton cut the Eastern lead to 29-23 with just over six minutes left in the first half. The Raiders ended up shooting 53 percent in the first half and trailed 43-35 at halftime.
The Raiders cut the lead to 50-45 with 15:30 to play on baskets by Childs and Thornton. Eastern kept its lead around five until a 10-0 run pushed the advantage to 67-52 with 8:26 to play.
SOU had one last run and got the lead down to 71-65 with 5:12 to play after baskets by Wolfer, Childs and freshman
Joe White (Springfield, Ore./Thurston).
Gregg hit a pair of free throws to stop SOU's run and Groce and Gregg hit field goals to get the lead to 10 at 77-67 with just over three minutes to play to put the game out of reach.
