“I kinda like where we are sitting right now,” SOU head coach
Mike Ritchey said. “It takes some of the pressure off us. I think we've got some guys that can go out and do some damage in the back door.”
Friday's action starts at 10 a.m. (CST) with session two and session three starts at 6 p.m. (CST).
SOU's opening day was highlighted by some impressive individual performances.
Freshman
Mitchell Lofstedt (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) showed no signs of jitters as he breezed into the 125 pound quarterfinals with a pair of pins. Senior
Trevor Lofstedt (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) is also in the quarters at 133 with an opening round pin.
Sophomore
Chris Platt (Eagle Point, Ore./Eagle Point) could have had the most impressive opening day. After missing huge chunks of the season with injuries, Platt scored an upset pin of Missouri Valley's Charlie Gibbs in the opening round and then came away with a major decision to get to the quarterfinals at 184.
“Now with two matches under his belt, he's feeling good about the rest of the tournament,” Ritchey said. “By tomorrow he shouldn't have any problems.”
Red-shirt freshman
Tommie Hooper (Burns, Ore./Burns) cruised into the quarters at 157 with a pair of major decision victories.
Barry Johnson (Dayton, Ore./Dayton) (141),
Seth Roy (Sherwood, Ore./Sherwood) (149) and
