Chris Platt (Eagle Point, Ore./Eagle Point) won their semifinal matches tonight at will wrestle for National Championships tomorrow night at the NAIA National Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla.
As a team, the Raiders sit in second place with 107.5 team points. Defending National Champion Lindenwood is in the lead with 147 points. Lindenwood has five wrestlers in championship matches.
Along with the three individuals in the championship matches, SOU has four still alive in the consolation rounds. The seven remaining individuals mean that the Raiders will go home with seven All-Americans.
“Lindenwood hasn't had a bad day yet and it takes them having a bad day to beat them,” SOU head coach
Mike Ritchey said. “But I liked the way we wrestled today. We wrestled tough all day and won the close matches. I'm proud of our guys.”
Trevor Lofstedt (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) started off his day at 133 pounds with a pin of Campbellsville's Tommy Pretty in 2:06 for his second pin of the tournament. Lofstedt then defeated Briar Cliff's Julian Gunnels 6-2 in the semifinals. Lofstedt will face defending National Champion Ray Stephens of Lindenwood in the National Championship match. Lofstedt has already wrapped up his fourth All-American title, becoming the fourth in school history to reach that milestone.
Younger brother
Mitchell Lofstedt (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) continued to roll through the 125 pound bracket with an 11-3 major decision victory over Notre Dame College's Tyler Savage in the quarterfinals. Lofstedt had back-to-back pins in his first two matches Thursday. In the semifinals, Lofstedt defeated Campbellsville's Johnny Papesh 3-0. Lofstedt will face Montana State-Northern's Cory Borges. Borges, the defending National Champion, has defeated Lofstedt three times already this year.
Platt scored his second straight major decision victory in the 184 pound bracket with an 11-2 victory over Dickinson State's Brett Owen in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Platt knocked off Great Falls' Michael French 3-1. Platt will face Montana State-Northern's Evan Hinebauch in the finals.
“Mich and Trevor have a pretty big challenge going against two defending National Champs, but the pressure is on them and we can just go out and wrestle,” Ritchey said. “All three of them are wrestling at a pretty high level right now. They are Saturday night kids and they have a chance to shine tomorrow night.”

Johnson, Roy and Hooper all fell in the championship semifinals.
