Jordan Highland (Tualatin, Ore./Tualatin) and Dex Daum (Fallon, Nev./Churchill) both turned in career nights as the Southern Oregon men opened up Cascade Conference play with an 85-79 victory over Concordia tonight in Portland.

Southern Oregon improved to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The Raiders travel to Warner Pacific tomorrow night. Concordia dropped to 4-5 overall and 0-1 in conference.

It was Daum who brought the Raiders back in the first half. A steal and layup by the red-shirt freshman and then a 3-pointer helped turn a 29-19 Concordia lead into a 30-29 SOU advantage.

Highland hit a pair of free throws as SOU led 33-29 at the half, despite the fact that Concordia shot 65 percent in the first 20 minutes.

In the second half, it was Daum and Highland who helped get the Raiders out of the gate. Daum hit a pair of 3-pointers and Highland had a pair of layups to help give SOU a 49-38 lead with just over 15:00 to play in the game.

Concordia trimmed the lead to two before again a 3-pointer by Daum and a layup by Highland had the Raiders up 56-51.

The Cavs continued to hang around and tied the game at 70-70 with 3:59 to play, but back-to-back buckets by Scott Tiefenthaler (Spanaway, Wash./Bethel) gave the Raiders the lead for good.

SOU shot 64 percent from the field in the first half.
