The Northwest University men jumped out to a 22-8 lead to start the game and then had to hold on en route to a 90-82 victory over Southern Oregon tonight at McNeal Pavilion.
Northwest improved to 14-10 overall and 8-5 in Cascade Conference play. Southern Oregon dropped to 11-12 overall and 3-11 in conference play.
Blake Solomon led all scorers with 25 points for Northwest.
Jarrad Childs (Paso Robles, Calif./Paso Robles) led SOU with 18 points.
Ryan Staker (Las Vegas, Nevada/Centennial) finished with 17 points, while
Joe White (Springfield, Ore./Thurston) had 12 points and
Humphrey Jackson (Redwood City, Calif./Woodside) had 10 points.
The Eagles used the first nine minutes of the game to build a 22-8 lead after a 3-pointer by Solomon.
The Raiders spent the rest of half coming back, taking a 33-31 halftime lead despite shooting just 28 percent from the field for the half.
After numerous ties, the Raiders took a 48-46 lead with 12:12 to play.
After that, Northwest took over. Another 3-pointer by Solomon gave Northwest a 77-66 lead.
A barrage of 3-pointers pulled SOU within five at 87-82 with 13 seconds to play, But free throws by Northwest ended the game.
SOU hosts Evergreen State tomorrow night.
