VALLEJO, Calif. – The Southern Oregon men's basketball team took a 36-35 lead en route to a 75-69 nonconference road victory over California Maritime Sunday afternoon.
Southern Oregon improves to 9-4 overall with the win. The Raiders return to action Friday, when they will face Eastern Oregon in a Cascade Collegiate Conference road contest at 7:30 p.m.
Kyle Tedder (Coos Bay, Ore./Marshfield) led SOU with 17 points on only six shots, making all eight of his free throw attempts.
Dex Daum (Fallon, Nev./Churchill) and
Eric Thompson (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) each added 16 points for the Raiders, and
Jordan Highland (Tualatin, Ore./Tualatin) finished with 11 points in the win.
Keven Campbell finished with a game-high 18 points for California Maritime. Josh Greenwell added 16 points and Isaiah Johnson tallied 14 in the loss.
The Raiders shot an even 50 percent from the field (22-of-44) in the win, including 7-of-16 from beyond the arc. California Maritime connected on only 35.3 percent of its shots (18-of-51), but hung close by virtue of knocking down 29 of 33 free throw attempts.
The game featured 44 turnovers and 57 fouls between the two teams. Eight total players reached four fouls, with one Keelhauler fouling out, and each team had 33 attempts at the charity stripe.
