CALDWELL, Idaho – Southern Oregon closed the game on an 18-2 run to complete a comeback from 22 points down as the Raiders defeated College of Idaho 64-61 in Cascade Collegiate Conference men's basketball action Saturday night at the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
Southern Oregon improves to 10-5 overall and 3-1 in conference play with the win. College of Idaho falls to 5-10 overall and 0-4 in the CCC. The Raiders will have the next week off and return to action at home against Concordia on Dec. 30 at 7:30 p.m.
Eric Thompson (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) hit a three-pointer with 37 seconds remaining to give SOU its first lead of the game at 62-61, and he hit a pair of free throws with eight seconds left to reach the final tally. Thompson finished with 21 points and nine rebounds, with
Terriel Thomas (Boise, Idaho/Borah) adding 12 points and 16 rebounds in the win.
Krispin Banks led College of Idaho with 15 points and nine rebounds and Rodney Delgardo finished with 14 points. Delgardo missed a three-pointer in the final 15 seconds that would have put C of I back on top, and the Coyotes missed a pair of one-and-one attempts in the closing seconds of the game.
Southern Oregon trailed 44-27 at halftime, but the Raiders used a 12-4 run to pull within single digits on
Sam Osofsky (Westwood, Calif./Westwood)'s three-pointer with 13:37 to play. The Yotes stretched their lead back to 13 points on Devan Telken's jumper with 9:04 remaining, but SOU held the hosts to 1-of-15 shooting the rest of the way.
Thompson scored the final seven points of the game as the Raiders completed the comeback. College of Idaho connected on 51.5 percent of its shots (17-of-33) in the first half, including 7-of-13 from beyond the arc, but the Raiders limited the Yotes to 18.8 percent shooting (6-of-32) in the second half.
