An early second half run was not enough as the Southern Oregon men fell at 16th-ranked Northwest 79-65 tonight at Kirkland, Wash.
Northwest improved to 17-5 overall and 9-4 in Cascade Conference play. Southern Oregon fell to 13-11 overall and 6-8 in league play. SOU travels to Evergreen State Saturday night.
Tyson Christie led Northwest with 16 points.
Jordan Highland (Tualatin, Ore./Tualatin) led the Raiders with 19 points.
Kellen Hawley (Cordova, Alaska/Cordova) made seven of eight baskets for 15 points and
Kyle Tedder (Coos Bay, Ore./Marshfield) added 11 points.
After trailing 37-24 at the half, the Raiders came out on fire in the second half, cutting the Northwest advantage to two at 44-42 on a fast break jumper by Tedder that pushed SOU's half-opening run to 18-7.
Austin Wolfer (Woodburn, Ore./Woodburn) tied the game at 44-44 with a jumper with 12:30 to play in the game.
Northwest responded by scoring the next seven points for a 51-44 advantage.
A layup by Christie had the Eagles back up 12 at 58-46 and they would remain in control for the rest of the game.
