TOURNAMENT BRACKETS
RENO – Four Raiders placed among the top four in their respective weight classes as the second-ranked Southern Oregon wrestling team placed fifth at the 2012 Reno Tournament of Champions Sunday afternoon.
Southern Oregon totaled 87 points to place fifth behind four NCAA Div. I programs. Eleventh-ranked Oregon State won the team title with 145 points, followed by Boise State (119), Michigan State (107.5) and No. 17 Wyoming (94.5).

Brock Gutches (Central Point, Ore./Crater) led the way for Southern Oregon, as the third-seeded wrestler in the 174-pound bracket pinned his way to two victories and earned decision wins in two others before giving way to top-seeded Cody Walters of Ohio in the championship bout. Gutches' second-place finish was the highest mark for any Raider at the tournament.
A pair of SOU wrestlers claimed third-place finishes, as No. 1
Mitchell Lofstedt (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) took third in the 125-pound bracket and No. 6
Taylor Johnson (Redmond, Ore./Redmond) finished third in the 197. Lofstedt, the No. 1-seeded wrestler in the 125-pound bracket, pinned his first two opponents before dropping an 8-4 decision to Michigan State's Brenan Lyon in a quarterfinal bout. Dropping to the consolation bracket, Lofstedt claimed four consecutive victories and picked up a 2-1 rematch victory over Lyon in the third-place match.
Johnson picked up three straight victories by fall before second-seeded Taylor Meeks of Oregon State knocked him out of the championship bracket with a 7-5 semifinal decision. Johnson responded with an 11-second pin of Michigan State's Luke Jones to advance to the consolation finals, where he earned a 2-0 victory over Utah Valley's David Prieto.

Jimmy Eggemeyer (Kodiak, Alaska/Kodiak) picked up a fourth-place finish in the 149-pound bracket. Eggemeyer finished the day 5-2, with every one of his bouts coming down to a decision of two points or fewer. He advanced to the third-place bout, where he fell to NC State's Tommy Gantt by a 3-1 decision for the second time in the tournament.
Southern Oregon returns to action Jan. 9 with a 7 p.m. exhibition dual against Clackamas Community College in Oregon City before heading to Springfield, Ill., for the 2013 NAIA-NWCA National Team Championships on Jan. 12 and 13.
