Box Score CALDWELL, Idaho – Southern Oregon missed two free throws and two three-point attempts in the final seven seconds as the 21st-ranked Raiders fell to College of Idaho 77-75 in a Cascade Collegiate Conference men's basketball game Friday night at the J.A. Albertson Activity Center.
Southern Oregon falls to 15-6 overall and 7-3 in conference play with its second consecutive loss. College of Idaho improves to 10-10 overall and 6-4 in the CCC. The Raiders return to action Saturday night, when they will head to La Grande for a nationally-ranked matchup with No. 1 Eastern Oregon.
Thompson led SOU with 20 points, while
David Sturner (Philomath, Ore./Philomath) posted a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Kyle Tedder (Coos Bay, Ore./Marshfield) and
Terriel Thomas (Boise, Idaho/Borah) each finished with 11 points in the loss. College of Idaho's Curtis Brever scored a game-high 21 points, while Antonio Garrett finished with 17 points and 19 rebounds.
College of Idaho shot 44.1 percent (30-of-68) in the game, while Southern Oregon connected on 45.6 percent (26-of-57) of its shot attempts. The Yotes out-rebounded the Raiders 43-32 in the game.
Southern Oregon led for most of the contest, holding an eight-point lead with less than seven minutes to play before an 11-point College of Idaho streak gave the Coyotes the lead. A layup by
Eric Thompson (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) with just under a minute to play made it a two-point game, but the Raiders were unable to find the net in the final moments of the game to force overtime or earn the last-second win.
Taylor Roos (Salem, Ore./Sprague) had the final shot for the Raiders, with his buzzer-beating three-point attempt rimming out.
The Raiders opened the game on an 11-4 run to claim an early lead, but College of Idaho scored 10 of the next 12 points to take its first lead of the game. The first half remained close throughout, as the lead changed five times with four tie scores in the period. Southern Oregon built its largest lead of the game midway through the second half. The Raiders twice built nine-point advantages, with Thompson sinking a pair of free throws to put SOU up 63-54 with just under 10 minutes remaining.
