2/23/2013 1:10:00 AM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MEDFORD – A cold and rainy first day of the 2013 Red Lion Southern Oregon University Softball Tournament did not go as planned for the Raiders as SOU fell 14-6 to British Columbia and 13-6 to Simpson Friday at US Cellular Community Park.

The losses dropped SOU's season record to 3-7 heading into Saturday's second day of the tournament. The Raiders will open the day at 10:30 a.m. against Holy Names before finishing the tourney with a pair of afternoon rematches against British Columbia and Simpson.

Game 1: British Columbia 14, Southern Oregon 6

BOX SCORE

Southern Oregon scored seven runs on six hits, but it was not enough as the Thunderbirds scored at least three runs in each of the final four innings. Sierra Anderson (Portland, Ore./Sunset) cranked her first home run of the season to lead SOU, while Irene Barrantes (Dos Palos, Calif./Dos Palos) finished with a pair of hits and Julia Willison (Reno, Nevada/McQueen) added a double.

Carlyn Shimizu led British Columbia with hits in all four at bats, including a pair of doubles, to score four runs and drive in three. Cassandra Dypchey added a home run and a double to drive home five. Jamie Randall earned the win for British Columbia, while Chelsea Talbert (Sacramento, Calif./West Campus) took the loss for SOU.

The Raiders scored the first two runs of the game, as Lauren Keel (Fullerton, Calif./Rosary) walked and came around to score in the first and Anderson walked and scored on a Keel single in the second. British Columbia scored four in the third, but the Raiders tied it up in the third on Willison's double and Anderson's homer.

From that point British Columbia scored three runs in the fourth and added four in the fifth and three more in the sixth. Southern Oregon's final two runs came in the fifth, when SOU took advantage of a Stephanie Vandenbusch (Fremont, Calif./American) single, an error and a pair of walks.

Game 2: Simpson 13, Southern Oregon 6

BOX SCORE

The Raiders posted an identical six runs on seven hits in Friday's second game, but again SOU's opponent reached double-figures to take down the tournament hosts. Alexa Gonzalez (Menifee, Calif./Heritage) and Ashley Lowe (Sacramento, Calif./Ck. McClatchy) each tallied a pair of hits, and Anderson crushed her second homer of the day in the loss.

Moregn Davis, Kara Wall and Cherie DeJesus each tallied three hits as Simpson finished with 16 in the game. Aleisha Brown added two hits, including a homer, and Emily Stokes struck out 12 to earn the complete game victory.

Simpson jumped all over SOU early, scoring seven runs in the first inning and adding two more in each of the second and third innings. The Raiders scored their first two runs in the top of the second, taking advantage of some Simpson wildness as two Raiders were hit by pitches and another walked.

Lowe brought home a run with a double in the top of third, and a Gonzalez double in the fourth scored another run for the Raiders. Anderson's two-run shot to center made it 12-6 in the top of the fifth, and Simpson added one final run in the bottom of the sixth.
