2/9/2013 9:45:00 PM

Box Score OLYMPIA – Southern Oregon doubled up Evergreen at halftime and held off the Geoducks in the second half to earn a 75-56 Cascade Collegiate Conference men's basketball victory Saturday night and claim its first 20-win season since 2005-06.

Southern Oregon improves to 20-8 overall and 11-5 in conference play, while Evergreen falls to 2-22 overall and 1-15 in the CCC. The win virtually assures SOU of a top-four conference finish, which would give the Raiders a home game in the first round of the conference tournament on Feb. 20. Southern Oregon currently sits in third place with a 1.5-game lead over Northwest and a two-game lead over Concordia with two games to go. The Raiders hold the individual tie-breaker advantage over both teams.

Kyle Tedder (Coos Bay, Ore./Marshfield) led SOU with 15 points, while David Sturner (Philomath, Ore./Philomath) fell one rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine boards. Terriel Thomas (Boise, Idaho/Borah) finished with 11 points and Jordan West (Gymea Bay, Australia/Port Hacking) Jacob Kaler (Camas, Wash./Camas Valley) each added 10. For Evergreen, Frankie Johnson tallied a game-high 22 points and Cody Peters added 12.

The Raiders scored the first nine points of the game and rarely looked back, connecting on 55.2 percent of their shots (16-of-29) in the opening period while limiting Evergreen to 21.2 percent shooting (7-of-33) during that stretch. Southern Oregon went more than five minutes without a point to open the second half, but Evergreen made only one of nine shot attempts during that stretch.

Evergreen started making shots after a pair of SOU free throws gave the Raiders' their first points of the half, and the Geoducks scored 11 in a row to pull within seven. Terriel Thomas (Boise, Idaho/Borah) finally ended the SOU drought with a jumper more than eight minutes into the second half, and from that point the Raiders slowly began to again pull away.

Southern Oregon finished the game at 49 percent (24-of-49) from the field while limiting Evergreen to 25.8 percent (17-of-66). The Raiders out-rebounded the Geoducks 45-to-35 and never trailed in the 19-point win.

Southern Oregon returns home for the final weekend of the regular season. The Raiders will host Corban on Friday and Northwest Christian on Senior Night Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
