Raiders Earn Rivalry Split with No. 15 Oregon Tech

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 KLAMATH FALLS – Southern Oregon claimed a 7-3 victory in the opener and No. 15 Oregon Tech powered five home runs to win the second game 12-1 and split a Cascade Collegiate Conference softball doubleheader Tuesday afternoon.

Southern Oregon's record goes to 12-13 overall and 8-4 in conference play, while Oregon Tech goes to 26-9 overall and 10-4 in the CCC. The Raiders will have the weekend off before returning to action April 5 with a home doubleheader against College of Idaho.

Ashley Lowe (Sacramento, Calif./Ck. McClatchy) tallied three hits in the opener to lead SOU, including a two-run triple in the fourth inning, while Alexa Gonzalez (Menifee, Calif./Heritage) and Jessica Flores (Corning, Calif./Corning) each finished with three hits in the two games. Sydney White (Clovis, Calif./Clovis West) picked up the complete-game victory in the opener, limiting Oregon Tech to three runs on nine hits with six strikeouts.

The Raiders got on the board early in the opener and never looked back, scoring three runs on three hits in the top of the first inning. Gonzalez and Lowe both singled to load the bases after Kara Kelsey (Middleton, N.J./Middletown North) was hit by a pitch. Stephanie Vandenbusch (Fremont, Calif./American) brought home the first run with a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch and Sierra Anderson (Portland, Ore./Sunset) drove in another run with a fielder's choice groundout. Irene Barrantes (Dos Palos, Calif./Dos Palos) made it 3-0 with a single to center.

Southern Oregon added a run in the third and two more in the fourth. Vandenbusch reached on an OIT error and came in to score on Flores' single to right, and the next inning Lowe drove home both Kelsey and Gonzalez with a triple to make it 6-0.

Oregon Tech scored its first run of the game in the bottom of the sixth when Taylor Schmidt homered to left, and the Raiders responded with a run in the top of the seventh. Julia Willison (Reno, Nevada/McQueen) opened the inning with a double and scored on a Kelsey single. The Owls used a pair of singles and a double to score two runs in the bottom of the frame before Schmidt grounded out to end the game.

The hosts bounced back with a powerful offensive performance in the second game, hitting a school-record four home runs in the fourth inning. After three Owls walked to load the bases in the bottom of the first inning, Alyssa Davis cranked a grand slam to left field.

Southern Oregon scored its lone run of the game in the top of the fourth when Barrantes came in to score on a single by Flores. Oregon Tech put on its power display in the bottom of the frame, scoring eight runs on seven hits. The highlight of the inning was the home runs by McKenzie Shrum, Sara Coates, Melissa Logan and Ashley Sfetku.
