Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LA MIRADA, Calif. – Biola didn't give the Southern Oregon University softball team any time to settle into the 2014 season in a sweep of the openers for both teams Friday afternoon.

The Eagles, who were picked to finish third in the Golden State Athletic Conference, jumped on the Raiders in first inning of both games and pocketed two 9-1 wins. Vanessa Coleman started a two-run first with an RBI single in Game 1, and CeCe Luster smacked a three-run homer to start Game 2 and was credited with two wins on the mound.

Luster went 5-for-7 on the day and scored twice in the opener. She also totaled 6 1/3 innings on the mound, allowing five hits with six strikeouts. The Eagles scored seven runs in the final three innings of Game 1 and seven in the first three of the nightcap.

Bria Madrid busted it open with a two-run double in the third. She was a nuisance all day from the leadoff spot, registering four hits and scoring four times.

Sydney White (Clovis, Calif./Clovis West) took the first loss for the Raiders but allowed just three earned runs in five innings of work. In Game 2, Karlie Stephens (Eagle Point, Ore./Eagle Point) got through 5 2/3 in relief of Cheyenne Bricker (Bieber, Calif./Big Valley) and gave up five earned.

Biola outhit SOU 24-7 in all.

Ashley Lowe (Sacramento, Calif./Ck. McClatchy) went 2-for-2 in Game 1 and accounted for SOU's first run of the year, doubling and scoring on a Sulie Augustine (Portland, Ore./Central Catholic) single to cut the Eagles' lead to 2-1 in the second. Julia Willison (Reno, Nevada/McQueen) doubled and scored on Gina Ayala (Norwalk, Calif./Santa Fe)'s sacrifice fly to account for the Raiders' other run.

SOU – which was playing in January for the first time since Kim Fritts took over in 2007 – will resume play with a doubleheader at top-ranked Concorida (Calif.) on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
