Box Score EUGENE – The Southern Oregon University men's basketball team's late-game woes persisted Saturday night in a 93-84 overtime loss to Northwest Christian at the Morse Events Center.

The Raiders (19-6 overall, 8-5 Cascade Conference) led 70-63 when Kyle Tedder (Coos Bay, Ore./Marshfield) made a step-back jumper with 1:50 left. Then, NCU point guard Javonte Byrd pulled them back for the second time this season.

Five straight Austin Kuemper points cut the lead to two with 54 seconds left. After a pair of Eric Thompson (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) free throws, Byrd's deep 3-pointer cut it to one. When Tedder hit two more free throws, Byrd tied it on another 3-pointer with 14 seconds to spare.

Byrd made two free throws to start overtime, where the Beacons went 4-for-6 from the floor, 11-for-13 from the line and never trailed.

Byrd, who had 24 points and seven rebounds for NCU (14-9, 8-5), went 4-for-7 from 3-point range and has hit 13 of 19 in two wins against SOU. He's 6-for-35 against everyone else in the conference.

Kuemper had 26 points and eight rebounds.

Thompson led the Raiders with 28 points and 10 boards. His leaning, desperation 3-point attempt on the last possession of regulation rimmed out. His fourth 3-pointer gave SOU its biggest lead, 64-56, with 6:35 remaining.

Tedder scored 15 points off the bench, and David Sturner (Philomath, Ore./Philomath) had 12 before fouling out in regulation. Jeff Bush (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) went for eight points and four assists, while Tim Weber (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) went for nine and three.

The 14th-ranked Raiders have lost three of their last six games – two in overtime and the other at the buzzer. Each of the last three games the Raiders and Beacons have played in Eugene needed an extra period.

NCU and SOU are now tied in third place, ½ game behind Northwest University.

The Raiders will return home next weekend for their final regular season games at Bob Riehm Arena, Friday against Northwest and Saturday against Evergreen.
