KLAMATH FALLS – Southern Oregon's 14-game homestand couldn't be coming at a better time after 13th-ranked Oregon Tech extended the Raiders' mini-slide Wednesday afternoon with a Cascade Conference sweep.

Ashley Sfetku's three-run homer in the fourth inning was the difference as OIT won 3-2 in the opener. In Game 2, Sadie Birch went 3-for-4 with two homers and six RBIs for a 9-3 Owls win.

SOU slipped to 21-15 overall and 2-6 in the CCC going into home doubleheaders at 2 p.m. Friday against College of Idaho and 11 a.m. Saturday against Eastern Oregon. OIT went to 23-8 and 7-2.

Wednesday's games were originally scheduled to be played in Ashland before rain forced the change Tuesday afternoon.

Kristin Ahern (Anaheim Hills, Calif./Rosary) gave SOU the initial lead in Game 1 with her third homer in as many doubleheaders and fifth of the season – a solo shot that made it 1-0 in the fourth. Raiders starter Cheyenne Bricker (Bieber, Calif./Big Valley) was cruising along until the bottom of that inning, when Tasha Silvius singled, Birch doubled and Sfetku homered consecutively.

Krystina Pardoski (Gaberville, Calif./South Fork)'s RBI single trimmed OIT's lead to 3-2 in the fifth. Ally Painter (La Palma, Calif./St. Joseph) and Jazmin Ruvalcaba (Carson, Calif./Banning) reached with walks in the sixth, but Rylee Carlton came on to record the final two outs and end the threat.

Owls pitcher Jessi Duncan allowed one earned run over 6 1/3 innings to improve to 10-3. Brianne Craig (Rialto, Calif./Etiwanda) pitched three innings of scoreless relief for the Raiders.

In the nightcap, Ahern doubled in Alexa Gonzalez (Menifee, Calif./Heritage) to put SOU on the board in the first frame, but OIT got four back in the bottom half, including three on Birch's first bomb. Birch and Katie Virtue extended the lead with RBI singles in the third, and Birch's two-run shot came in the sixth.

Tre Sullivan and Silvius stroked two doubles apiece for the Owls, and Rylee Carleton earned the win by allowing one run in 3 2/3 innings of relief.

Alexa Gonzalex had two of SOU's eight hits with a run scored. Painter added a double, and Megan Scherer (Oakland, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd) and Ruvalcaba had an RBI apiece.

SOU has been limited to three runs or less in all six of its conference losses.
