SOU strikes early, often in 6-0 rout of Multnomah

ASHLAND – An electrical failure delayed the start of Saturday night's game at Raider Stadium between the Southern Oregon and Multnomah men's soccer teams, but the lights finally turned on after roughly 30 minutes of waiting. And that was bad news for Multnomah.

SOU freshman Brendan Allen dropped in two headers within 2:20 of the game starting and the Raiders eased to a 6-0 defeat of the Lions to complete a weekend Cascade Conference sweep.

The Raiders (6-2 overall, 2-2 CCC) scored four times before halftime and had advantages of 25-2 in shots and 15-0 in corners over the Lions (0-5, 0-2), who have been outscored 35-1 this season – their first as a member of the NAIA and CCC.

Kirk Bassett's cross set up Allen's first goal 29 seconds after the opening whistle, and Ahmon Afenegus's chip from left of the goal to right in front of it set up the second. Allen assisted Diego Buenrostro in the 23rd minute for an easy liner about five yards from the net, and two minutes later it was Afenegus's turn as he picked off an errant pass and fired an eight-yard uncontested shot left to right from eight yards away.

Allen is up to a team-high six goals and one assist, and Afenegus has four goals and five assists to tie him with 13 points.

Tanner Holland bounced in his first goal of the season from 18 yards out and straight on in the 49th minute, and Dakota Marquez took a pass inside the box from James Ramos in the 70th minute for his fourth goal.

Jonathan Morales earned the shutout, though he only needed to make one save to get it.

The Raiders shot 54 times compared to opponents' three on the weekend (they defeated Walla Walla 5-1 on Friday).

They're back on the road next Friday and Saturday for CCC contests at Corban and Northwest.
