Eubanks, Beavers slow down SOU after fast start

CORVALLIS – Drew Eubanks' 15-of-21, 32-point and nine-rebound performance allowed the Oregon State Beavers to shrug off Southern Oregon's hot start Monday and pull away for an 84-59 win at Gill Coliseum.

The game was an exhibition for the Raiders (6-2 overall), who kept pace during the first half thanks to nine 3-pointers. Their seventh make on 11 attempts, and third in a row for Conor Carroll, gave them a 21-19 lead and forced the Beavers to call a timeout with 11:50 left in the half.

Ben DeSaulnier and Tristen Holmes scored 14 points apiece to lead SOU. DeSaulnier's free throw 2:56 before halftime cut OSU's advantage to 35-34, but the Beavers went into the break on a 10-1 run.

Eubanks, a 6-foot-10 sophomore, did most of his damage in the first half with 24 points and helped OSU shoot 58 percent. The game was a counter for the Beavers (3-4 overall), who also ended the game on an 11-2 spurt.

The Raiders went 3-of-12 from 3-point range in the second half after going 9-of-19 in the first, and DeSaulnier finished 4-of-6 from downtown. They shot 35 percent from the field (21-of-60).

Kenny Meyer had seven points, five rebounds and four assists, while Carroll scored nine points off the bench and Jordan Hunt had eight points and three boards.

SOU plays this weekend at the Hope International Invitational in Fullerton, Calif. – Friday against fourth-ranked Biola and Saturday against No. 17 Hope International.
