Southern Oregon University's
Davie Carmichael was named the Cascade Conference Coach of the Year and junior
Michael Miller received the co-CCC Defensive Player of the Year award on a vote of the league's coaches, the CCC announced Tuesday night.
The Raiders landed seven total all-conference selections: Miller and junior goalkeeper
Wyatt Zabinski on the first team, and freshman forward
Noah Addie, junior defender
Gonzalo Garcia, senior midfielders
Paul Matyas and
Carlos Magana, and freshman defender
Zak Woolley on the second team.
Kelly Gieber, a junior midfielder/defender, received honorable mention.
Carmichael, who was hired in April to replace Biniam Afenegus, guided SOU to a second consecutive CCC regular-season title and a spot in the upcoming NAIA National Tournament. After dropping their first two games, the Raiders (14-2-2 overall) have gone unbeaten in 16 straight and became the first team to pull off an unbeaten CCC regular-season run in 10 years.
After Zabinski garnered the top defensive honor last year, Miller now shares it with Rocky Mountain senior Gregor Watson. Behind Miller and Zabinski, the Raiders have shut out 12 opponents and allowed an average of just 2.3 shots on goal per game in conference play. Against CCC opponents, they gave up three goals and only trailed in one game.
Matyas was a second-team selection for the second year in a row, keying the Raiders' attack from the midfield with two goals and an assist. Magana returned to the list after being voted the CCC Newcomer of the Year two seasons ago, totaling seven goals and one assist in his senior campaign. Garcia was a first-time selection, boasting a goal and five assists as one of the top defenders in the circuit.
Addie and Woolley were among just four underclassmen on the All-CCC teams. Addie has recorded a team-high 10 goals and ranked third overall in CCC play with eight.
Rocky's Nolan Sherwood, with 14 goals and two assists to his name, was voted the CCC Offensive Player of the Year. Evergreen senior Emilio Meraz-Rodriguez, who owns eight goals and 11 assists, was named the top newcomer.
