ASHLAND – After squeezing in one last clutch moment to end the regular season, Southern Oregon midfielder
Jonathan Gaspar has been voted the Cascade Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the second time.
Gaspar, the junior from Forest Grove, scored the 87th-minute winner in the Raiders' much-needed 2-1 defeat of Warner Pacific on Sunday afternoon, a victory vaulted them from sixth place to third in the standings and significantly brightened their postseason prospects. He also assisted the lone goal in Friday's 1-0 win against Walla Walla.
Gaspar finished the regular season with five goals and two assists, but he had three CCC game-winning scores in the 85th minute or later – becoming the first player in team history to do so.
He supplied goal involvements in each of the last four games to keep the Raiders unbeaten during the stretch. They stand at 11-3-3 overall after going 7-3-2 in circuit play, and they moved up to No. 30 in this week's NAIA RPI rankings to remain on the national tournament bubble.
The Raiders play their CCC quarterfinal game against No. 6 seed Bushnell, 4 p.m. Saturday at Medford's Lithia & Driveway Fields. The teams tied their regular-season matchup, 2-2, after Gaspar scored in the 61st minute to fuel SOU's comeback from a two-goal deficit.
The rest of the CCC Tournament will also take place in Medford. The semifinals are slated for Nov. 9 and the finals for Nov. 11.
